Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a disease characterised by symptoms such as sleep disorders, fatigue and depression accompanied by widespread pain. Fibromyalgia syndrome is generally more common in women and negatively affects the quality of life. Although the causes of FMS are not known exactly, genetic, environmental, psychological and traumatic factors are thought to be effective.
Common symptoms of FMS include widespread muscle pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, depressed mood, distractibility, migraine headaches, digestive system problems and urinary tract complaints. Diagnosis can be difficult and is usually based on anamnesis and physical examination.
