Muscular Dystrophy

Muscular dystrophy is a progressive genetic disorder characterized by weakness and loss of muscle strength, primarily affecting skeletal muscles. It is generally seen in male children. Families should be educated about the disease. The existing muscle strength should be preserved. Measures should be taken to prevent muscle shortening and joint deformities due to lack of movement. A customized exercise regimen should be designed for the patient. Assistive devices such as orthoses should be incorporated into the treatment if necessary. Respiratory exercises must be included in the rehabilitation process. The goal is to achieve maximum independence in daily living activities for the patient.
